Darby Smart | a DIY box (+ coupon code!)

today i would like to introduce to you Darby Smart! i first heard of Darby Smart through Stephanie when she posted her box on instagram! she told me it was right down my alley, so i just had to check it out!

MEET DARBY SMART
Darby Smart was launched in June 2013 by former finance gal Nicole Farb. despite multiple attempts she often had trouble duplicating projects on Pinterest because she wasn’t armed with the right tools and materials to recreate these projects. She was not alone, and the idea for Darby Smart began.

in addition to turning Pinterest posts into real-life projects, Darby Smart helps leading influencers launch their design ideas. Darby Smart began with 10 designers and now has a yearlong designer waiting list. Darby designers create project kits for all levels of crafting ability – from novice to advanced – giving everyone the chance to craft fun and creative projects with polished results.

with a click of a button, Darby Smart delivers the supplies and simple instructions directly to the customer. Darby Smart rotates a selection of more than 50 kits at a time and new kits are unveiled every three days. kits start around $20 (including fast & free shipping) and are available up to 60 days or until supplies last. this is not a box subscription, so you just pick which project you would like to make & everything is shipped straight to you!

CREATIVE CONNECTIONS
Darby Smart not only enables DIYers to create projects, but it also builds community and fosters creativity. Community members are invited to vote on top trends, and winning trends are turned into DIY projects. Its showroom celebrates its community’s great work by displaying photos of finished craft projects shared by members. Plus, anyone can apply to become a featured Darby Smart designer by submitting DIY designs, which are voted on by the Darby Smart community. Selected designs are turned into DIY kits, and chosen designers receive a percent of sales for their kits.

MY BOX
so my box came in the mail two weekends ago & i was absolutely ecstatic! one of the 52 dates my husband & i are doing this year is to create a craft - so this was the perfect kit for our date day! it is really neat that you literally have everything sent to your door & all you have to do is create and have fun with it! no extra supplies needed!

this DIY kit came with TWO cutting boards, a wood burner, stencils, paint, and a practice piece of wood! the card included in the kit has step by step instructions on the back of how to the process should go which is really helpful! we decided that we could make one for ourselves & make the other one for a gift! we debated on how we wanted to decorate our cutting board & finally decided to make a South Carolina state outline!

the wood burner comes with 4 different tips to choose from which is great! there is one that works for just about anything, one specifically for detailing, one for shading, and one for smooth curves. the wood burner wand heats up in 10 minutes & is very easy to use. after only a short time of practicing we felt confident that we could make our cutting board look great!

we loved the fact that we didn't have to spend a bunch of time going to different stores to collect all of our supplies. it was a real time saver & with our busy schedules anything that can save time is a winner for us! overall, the project took us about an hour including brainstorming, practicing, and designing the cutting board! all of the supplies were great quality & that made the project so much smoother! Darby Smart does a great job of envisioning projects & assembling the kits. i also love the fact that you can literally do so many different things with the same kit! the sky is the limit!

YOU
there are all sorts of Darby Smart box kits to choose from on their DIY projects page. the price range depends on what you want to make! a few that i can't wait to try are: monogram coasterschalkboard planters, and mixed media vision boards. there are SO many great projects out there for all sorts of styles! and if you're feeling really adventurous, you can always opt for the mystery box! :)

  22. Interesting! I like the idea of this, because my least favorite part of projects is going to the store to get the supplies. Inevitably, I am not able to find every single thing at one store. Then I end up with some — but not all — of the supplies and the project never happens :)

  24. That is such a fun and neat thing! However, me and my husband just had a talk about 'need' vs 'want' and this definitely falls into the 'want' category =) I'm going to keep it on my list though. Do you know if you can send those as a gift? I have friend that I would love to send that to for their birthdays or for a surprise snail mail.

  25. haha! you are right - it is definitely a want!! :)
