our first anniversary | a recap

Saturday, May 17, was our actual anniversary and Thomas's birthday! we didn't make huge plans because we had our 9 day anniversary trip to get ready for! we actually spent the afternoon at the doctor because Thomas had been feeling some side pain all week (and has had kidney stones before) so we wanted to make sure it wasn't anything serious - especially before we left for a week. they didn't find anything immediately wrong so they said we should be fine for our trip! we went to dinner at the place that Thomas asked me to be his girlfriend & our waiter gave us a free dessert! we chose the Reese's peanut butter pie and man was it divine!

when we got home, we opened our wedding cake & ate a slice! we had sunflower cupcakes for our wedding, but we also had a 6 inch cake topper that we froze for our first anniversary! we didn't get to see the topper because it went straight to the freezer, so it was fun to open it up and see something new! i love the sunflowers on the cake - they are so cute! my mom & dad wrapped our cake and they did an awesome job because it tasted so fresh! we fed each other the first bite and it was delicious! it's crazy eating a cake that was made a year ago though!

for part of our wedding, we had a wine box ceremony instead of a unity candle! we had a box with a bottle of wine in it sitting on a pedestal & we each put a letter we wrote to the other that week into the box and sealed it to be opened on our anniversary. we will write another letter & put another bottle of wine in the box for our next anniversary - and repeat that each year! i think this is an awesome tradition! after we tried our cake, we read the letters we wrote to each other! since it was late when we opened it, we decided to take the wine with us to the cabin and enjoy it all week!
