year one | part one

saturday is a very special day for two reasons.

reason one: it's my husbands birthday! he's one year away from being 30 - can you believe that? his birthday is making me feel older!

reason two: one year ago to the day, we became Mr. and Mrs. Black! (he was already Mr. Black, but you get my point.)

yes, we got married on his birthday! i would tell you it's for some cool reason like so that he can remember the date easily. or so he would have "the best birthday gift ever". or that we wanted to get married on an already special day. but none of that is true. it's actually just because we were dead set on getting married in the month of May & dead set on getting married where we did - it turned out that was the only date available, so we took it!

so, what does being married for one year feel like? well, it feels a whole lot like being married for one day. yet it also feels like we've always been married. isn't that the strangest sensation? it feels like it JUST happened, yet it also feels like it's always been that way.

here's two things you probably already knew about me: i love lists & i am very sentimental. so that pretty much explains this post! i thought it would be fun to reflect on our first year of marriage so we will have this to look back on in the coming years!

5 awesome things that happened during our first year of marriage

o1 | in May, we went to Yellowstone for our honeymoon! it was such an amazing trip! neither of us had ever been there before, so we got to explore together! i actually blogged about it, so you can read more about that here

o2 | at the beginning of June, Thomas's company moved to a building that is a lot closer to where i work! because of this, we get to carpool to work each morning! it takes us about 45 minutes to get to work, so this has been some awesome time together & has helped us save a ton of money on gas!

o3 | in July, we went on a cruise with his family to the Bahamas! this trip was planned almost a year in advance, and we weren't even engaged at the time the trip was booked! but Thomas told his family that he was going to propose & we would most likely be married by the time the cruise came, so we got a room together!

o4 | in October, we bought a new-to-us car! my car wasn't being driven daily since we carpool & it started having issues. his car is getting on up there in age & mileage. we wanted to find a good car that would last us a while but for an affordable cost. before we started really looking, a lady my mother in law works with was selling her fathers car! it's a 2005 but with very low mileage, exactly the price we were willing to pay, and basically everything Thomas wanted! since my name is Robyn and our last name is Black, sometimes we call ourselves "Blackman & Robyn" so we named our car the Black mobile! #nerdlife

o5 | we were able to go on a lot of fun trips together during this first year! we realize that between our budget & me only having 2 weeks of vacation each year, that we won't be able to take a lot of trips! so we took advantage of everything we could this first year!
May | Yellowstone National Park
July | the Bahamas
September | weekend getaway in the mountains
November | Washington, DC
January | Cleveland, Ohio (Thomas got to tag along with me on my business trip!)
May | cabin getaway for our first anniversary!

and to think that this is just year one!
