matron of honor diaries | the bridal shower

i am the matron of honor in my best friend's wedding & am loving helping with all things wedding! this is my first time being a matron of honor & i think it is much more fun to help with someone else's wedding than planning your own! :) i had fun planning mine, but oh my goodness the details! i am getting to do more fun stuff for hers so i am loving it!

this past Saturday, i helped host a bridal shower for her and it was a blast! there were 5 of us hosting so that was pretty awesome! Jenna's mom & step mom did all things food, i did the invitations & decorations, and me and two of the bridesmaids did the games!

THE INVITATIONS
i love anything to do with snail mail & i love creating fun invitations! so, obviously, i signed up to send out the invitations for Jenna's shower! i created them myself because i love doing stuff like that! i found a free background online & just added all of the text to it. i printed the 4x6 invitations on cardstock, and then glued them onto different colored 5x7 cardstock! i think they came out great & colorful, plus i love that they aren't all the same! i used my grey & white chevron envelopes to send them in because they are just cute!

THE DECORATIONS
for the decorations, i bought some, borrowed some, already had some, and made some! there is a huge mixture of color in all of the decorations, but i think it goes together quite nicely! both Jenna & i have a habit of not really having a color theme - we like a modge podge of colors!

what you see:
celebrate banner | The Parcel Post on Etsy
burlap C | made by me
gifts banner | Banner Manner on Etsy (used at my wedding)
paper straws | craft stores
mason jars | borrowed
"love" and "mr & mrs!" printable | Smitten on Paper
bird dry erase frame | Hobby Lobby
words of wisdom cards | Vienna is Love on Etsy
sunflowers | Wal-Mart
burlap table runners | made by Thomas's grandma
chalkboards | dollar store
bird photo holder | Hobby Lobby
black & white initials | Hobby Lobby

THE FOOD
the food was so amazing & i absolutely adored the wedding dress cupcakes! the menu included pimento cheese sandwiches, egg salad sandwiches, various chips, cheese ball & crackers, cookies, & cupcakes. they did such a great job with everything & i don't think a single person left hungry!

THE GAMES
o1 | everyone was handed a sheet of paper with 10 questions about the couple. you circled the bride or the groom based on what you thought the answer to each question was. when everyone was finished, Melanie asked the questions & everyone held up the lips & mustache based on if they thought the answer was the bride or groom. these questions were harder than i thought they would be! :)

o2 | Nicole wrote one sentence at the top of a piece of paper, leaving the last word visible. the paper was passed around & each person would use that visible word to start their sentence, also leaving one visible word for the next person. after everyone was finished, Jenna read the crazy story out loud. even though there were a lot of run on sentences the story was pretty comprehensible! :)

o3 | this was my game! everyone split up into groups of 4-5. each group had 1 model and the others were designers. each group was provided 2-3 rolls of toilet paper & the designers would make a toilet paper wedding dress on the model. once everyone was done, Jenna announced 1st through 3rd place! it was so fun to see the different dress creations!

THE GIFT
i didn't have a huge budget, so i decided to use part of Jenna's gift as some of the decorations! that way it gets to look pretty during the shower & then she gets to take it home to look pretty! it is a win/win situation!

i got the bird photo holder & initials idea from my sister in law actually! she did this at my bridal shower & the bird with initials is now proudly displayed in my living room! i love it & loved being able to take home some of the decoration!

Jenna and Ryan got their engagement pictures done at the beginning of July, so i got her to send me the pictures when she got them back. i made a cute little print to display some of their engagement photos at the shower & then she can display in her home! i asked what her favorite photo was & used that as the middle picture. then i put 2 of my favorites on the side. i love how this came out & will probably make one for me too!

i also found the chalkboard mason jars on a random shopping trip & just knew that Jenna needed a set of these! they are right down her alley & i knew she would love them! chalkboard mason jars aren't complete without chalk & fun paper straws, so i added those in as well!

  8. I've never been a matron of honor but I imagine it would almost be more fun than being the bride, there is so much less stress and pressure, after all, it's not your big day :) Or maybe those are just my naive thoughts. :)
