5 random things

i've seen other bloggers post random facts about themselves here and there. i love reading posts like that because i feel like it helps me get to know them on a completely different level. most of these are things that wouldn't come up in a normal blog post, but they may come up in a conversation between friends at a coffee shop. so i think it adds a new level to the blogger/reader relationship!

o1; my ears have been pierced 3 times. my parents got them pierced when i was really young and one day one got ripped out which ripped the hole, so they let them grow back. i got them pierced at Claire's in the mall during middle school. i didn't wear earrings enough so they eventually grew back. then in high school, i decided i would pierce them myself since i could see where the holes used to be. i have a high tolerance of pain, so it didn't really hurt. and this one finally took! i wore earrings enough to where the hole stayed and even though i don't wear earrings a ton now, they are still pierced!

o2; speaking of piercings, my friend pierced my nose for me during high school. he had a piercing kit and knew what he was doing though. i loved my nose ring, but my job at that time eventually made me take it out. i was mad because it grew back in. i miss it and have actually thought about getting it pierced again.

o3; so you probably know i have a basset hound by now. but what you don't know is how i got her! when i was growing up, our next door neighbor had a basset hound that stayed outside all the time. they traveled a lot and were hardly at home to watch her. i would take care of her while they were gone and spend hours playing with her in their backyard. they put their house up for sale & i begged my dad to ask if we could keep her! i'm a little bold sometimes. a few weeks later, i finally got my dad to ask them and when he did they told us "we wish you would've asked us sooner, we JUST gave her away to another family!" so ever since then i wanted my own basset hound.

fast forward to a year after i graduated high school - i was in a pet store and saw this cute little basset hound puppy - i had my own job and had saved up quite a bit of money. so i got her! i was living with my parents while working and hadn't asked them if i could get her, i just got her and brought her home. not my wisest moment, but it obviously worked out! i came home with her, walked into my dad's office and he said "what is that?" to which i replied "it's my new basset puppy" - to which he replied "no it's not!" and then realized that it was, in fact, my puppy. for now at least. since she was a pet store puppy, we had some ups & downs with her at first. but she lasted through it all & is not the best trained house dog!

o4; in October 2012, i found out that i had a 22 pound cyst growing inside of me. i had to have emergency surgery & it was the size of a watermelon. it was 95% liquid, so it moved around my organs & that's why no one could tell it was in there. other than some pressure & heartburn, i had no side effects. that was probably the craziest thing that has ever happened to me! it took a few months to recover, but i got married 6 1/2 months after that!

o5; i have a Georgia birth certificate, but i have lived in South Carolina all my life.

share something random i don't know about you!

  1. Great post! I love Basset Hounds. We had one and he was the best. One day (after many years) he wandered off and never came back. We looked and looked for him but had no luck. He was always a wanderer so I don't know if someone picked him up or what.

How wild that you had a 22 pound cyst and no one knew it. That is scary!

  6. Crazy about the cyst! And ah ha ah about your dog! I understand though. The older I get the more of a sucker I'm becoming for pets.

Here is my weird health thing - I'll have to post about it in my next random fact post, but I had meckles diverticuluum. Basically when I was developing in my Mom ( I forget the term for that) but my stomach and small intestine didn't separate. Long story short I had some crazy internal bleeding, had surgery and two blood transfusions. It sounds worse than it is but weird health things are just so crazy.

  10. i went to the doctor to start b/c before we got married & i told her my symptoms & they did an ultrasound to see what was in there! it was like 99% liquidy so it just moved around between organs & you couldn't tell from the outside! scary! i used to think that too! until i was the one who didn't know!! it had apparently been growing for years b/c of the type it was... but i only started wondering when i had symptoms!

  15. Piercings are so unpredictable. I got my ears done when I was 3 or 4 and I have only ever worn earings off and on for the last ten years or so...I'm grateful that they've never closed, because my 3 or 4 yr old self was a LOT braver than my 24 year old self. :)

Your dog is cute! There's just something about basset hounds.

Your cyst story is CRAZY! How did they find it? I'm glad it was that "simple" and that it's over with!

  16. that is awesome! i agree - i would not want to get them pierced now! i don't know why mine kept growing back in, but it was irritating!

yes! i love basset hounds & i can't imagine life without one now!! :)

i went to the doctor to start birth control before we got married & i told her my symptoms & they did an ultrasound to see what was in there! it was like 99% liquidy so it just moved around between organs & you couldn't tell from the outside! so scary that something like that can grow & i not know it! yes, it was a hard recovery, but it could have been a lot worse!!

  17. Well .. I first had the flair up of meckles when I was a little bitty baby. The doctors said "It could be meckles but it's so rare so we won't test for it". Then it flaired again when I was 18 / 19. Flair is a light term ... I had serious issues but the surgery fixed it and I'm good to go. I have a scar because they sliced through my abs but it isn't very big so it's no big deal.

  19. I have a a cyst too, but it's tiny and on my wrist. I can't believe you had one that was 22 pounds! So, this might be a dumb question, but did your weight drop 22 pounds when they got it out of you?

    ReplyDelete
  20. i have a friend that had one on her wrist! i think those tend to go away on their own, right?
i couldn't believe it either! haha well it actually isn't a dumb question because i didn't lose a full 22 pounds! right after the surgery, i was about 10 lbs down but was still swollen from the surgery. after a few weeks i went down to 15 lbs lighter but that's about all i "lost" during the whole thing! maybe i was so relieved it was out of me that i just ate a crap ton or something! haha

  21. oh wow! so crazy how so much time had passed! glad the surgery fixed it though!!!

ouch! they sliced through my abdomen too & it hurt so much healing from that!! my scar is 7 inches long so i look like i've had a c section!

  22. Hi Robyn, this was one of the most fun "things you don't know about me" lists!! I've got my ears pierced in two places but I rarely wear earrings - somehow though I can still get earrings into my ears! I have my nose pierced, it was agony but I love it- I'm glad none of my jobs require me to take it out!
Your dog is adorableeee. I'm desperate to get a puppy- I grew up in a house of dogs but moving away to uni meant being away from that. Hopefully in a few months time we'll have our own place and a dog!
Wowww about your cyst! I'm so glad you're recovered that must have been scary.
