birthday weekend | trains & yurts

Thomas & i both had some vacation left so we took off the friday before my birthday & headed out of town a day early! Thomas planned a super fun & unique birthday weekend for me and it was top notch! we both love just taking road trips & getting out of the normal routine anyways, but this trip was a little something extra & it was so nice to get outta dodge!

i joke with him because his birthday is on our anniversary. so i tell him that he is always going to get a super fun birthday weekend & this year we went to a cabin & DC so he did get an awesome birthday trip! but i have to say that my birthday trip was just as awesome, even if it was shorter!

Friday
diner breakfast
exploring a farm house & mill
yurt in the mountains #glamping

Saturday
Smoky Mountain Railroad train ride! (10-3)
stayed in Franklin, NC

Sunday
visited cabbage patch kids "Babyland"

have you ever heard of or stayed in a yurt?
do you pretend you are on the Hogwarts Express when you ride on a train?

  3. Never heard of a yurt before, it looks like a luxurous cabin to me. Lovely decorations and furniture in there!!!! What a great way to celebrate a birthday. That old train makes me think of the model railway village in Clonakilty, Ireland. There they have built all the bigger towns of West Cork in miniature. Simply fantastic!

  5. What a fun weekend!!!! We were going to go yurting for our anniversary but then decided against it because I had to get up too many times in the night to use the bathroom and I didn't want to have to be traipsing through the woods at night.

  6. I'm so glad you had a fun birthday weekend! The yurt thing is just sounding more and more like a fun idea.

Ok, what is up with the cabbage patch doll face field?! For some reason that cracked me up. I hope that doesn't sound rude. I do remember having those dolls as a kid and they were AWESOME!!!

  7. When I was a girl, I had a book that told the magic story of how Cabbage Patch Kids were "born." Since then, I have wanted to visit their doll hospital.

  10. it is glamorous camping! :) the yurts have lattice walls & canvas - so it's like a luxurious tent with a bed, fridge, and coffee maker! :) it was so much fun & we are going back in October when it's not so hot!

oh wow! miniature towns - that sounds so neat!! :)

  13. it is so fun!!! you should see if there are any yurts where ya'll are taking your adventure this month & stay in one!! :)

haha! isn't that kinda creepy?! it was cool to see, but kinda creepy at the same time lol. so, when a cabbage patch is birthed, it is birthed out of the tree where the cabbage heads are! they have a doctor come up and do the "birth" - he is dressed in doctor clothing & everything! it is hilarious!

  14. neat! there were 2 "births" while we were there & they have doctors that "deliver" the baby to the kid wanting to buy it! the whole building is set up like a hospital too!

well, if you are ever in Cleveland, GA look it up! :)

  16. Oh my goodness, this birthday weekend sounds AMAZING! That's so awesome you stayed in a yurt -- we were going to do the same for my birthday weekend, but it was downpouring so we opted for a motel. It must have been such a cool experience! So glad to see you had an awesome birthday.

the german village is in Helen, Georgia! it's about 2-2.5 hours from where we live & such a neat little town!

  19. Yes, it really is! I love taking time to purposefully "wander" around new places. The only problem is that I usually want to go back to do the rest of the things that caught my eye!
And with that, Helen, GA is on my list! :)
