frozen

you know how people get snow storms & then have days of fun playing in the snow, making snow angels, building snowmen, and having snowball fights? well, in South Carolina we rarely get snow. instead, we get ice. you get all the cold & power outages that you do with snow... except none of the fun. but considering that we only get about 3 days each winter, instead of 5 straight months of it... i am not complaining!

since my work uses laptops, i have the capability to work from home. which means that when the offices are closed, Thomas gets a day off & i still have to work. i make some time in the day to explore with him, though! last year, we made a snow penguin & a snowman on my lunch break! this year, since it's just ice we just skated around our driveway and took pictures. we also let our basset & bunny out very briefly to experience the cold - the basset had fun but the bunny hated it! (i don't blame him!)

while i was outside snapping photos, our neighbors horse came running up to the edge of our yard. luckily he just stood there staring at me & didn't try to jump over the fence and gallop into our yard! i wasn't looking forward to being knocked onto the ice by a horse. after about a minute the owner heard the horse & came over and got him safely back into the field. it is always interesting living in the country! :)

do you get snow or ice where you live?

  1. Yes, we definitely get snow in Michigan! I live about 90 minutes from the Indiana border, about 30 minutes east of Lake Michigan. Living by a large body of water really affects our weather. This morning we have 5 inches of fresh snow. It's really pretty, and not too bad to drive in if the roads are salted and sanded properly.

  2. That's gorgeous!!! It's hard for me to believe that other areas in the states are getting snow/ice when I went for a walk in a skirt (no tights/leggings) yesterday and let the sun kiss my skin!

  7. i bet the Lake really affects your weather! i visited Cleveland last January and got to see Lake Erie frozen over! their roads are SO well treated up there though! down here, our DOT's don't have all the equipment so our roads aren't treated the best... and we just get ice! i would prefer to drive on snow than ice!!

  8. Yes. It snowed when we wrap up in Spokane for Christmas. Since he was only a month old he didnt really get to go out and play in it but I'm sure he'll love it next year when he's a bit older.

  9. There is no snow and ice where I currently live BUT it does get to be 60 degrees and everyone dresses like there is snow and ice (coats and hats!).

    Two things:
    1. Is your dog doing the infamous scowl that I find so cute???
    2. When did you redesign your blog? It is super pretty. I haven't had good internet to read blogs like I normally do but I peeked at your blog last week and saw the new design. I like the watermark colors. They are really pretty.

  11. it was so neat to see how it totally engulfed the plant! yeah ice can be really annoying most of the time! since we didn't lose power though it was enjoyable this time! and melted the next day!

  14. Holy Cow! That is phenomenal. Those icicles are amazing. I live at the beach in Southern California, so I see nothing like this unless I travel to it. Wow...great pictures. Please come share your blog posts over at the Home Matters Linky Party! We'd love to have you for a visit. The Door is OPEN. http://lifewithlorelai.com/2015/02/19/home-matters-linky-party-25/ :)

  15. Love the icicles! We normally get snow but only had a couple days of snow that didn't stick around this year... a very warm winter for us. The bunny pic is great, btw.

  16. your ice pictures are BEAUTIFUL! it's surprising how something so potentially destructive (and miserable, if you're a bunny) can be so pretty. we got snow and no ice here, altho today's zero degree weather feels pretty icy :P

  17. Beautiful shots!!! I'm sorry that it's been hitting you all so hard down there! My cousins took advantage of the ice for some MAJOR sledding and most everyone else is just wishing it would go away. :) Meanwhile, I've been out in my yard pretty much everyday this week. (It did get really cold for a couple of days, but it warmed back up this afternoon!)

  18. i agree. i think the ice is pretty as long as i don't have to drive while there is ice on the roads!! :) do you get any ice or snow down in Charleston? haha yeah that's a good plan, next time i'll leave my computer ;)
